Uptown Protected Bike Lane Demo
Sunday October 22, 2017 - Charlotte, NC - Coinciding with Biketoberfest on Sunday October 22nd, there will be a demonstration of the City of Charlotte’s Uptown protected bike lane. The demo occupies an entire lane of 6th Street from McDowell Street to Ray’s Splash Planet and Irwin Creek Greenway. The route is one-way (westbound) except for a special segment from the Rail Trail to Pine Street which is two-way. On the weekend days, there will be an additional protected lane on 7th Street that connects to Little Sugar Creek Greenway. It’s a great way to test out the route that the Uptown Connects study recommends implementing! The PBL demo will be active beginning October 22nd thru October 29th.
Tuesday October 24, 2017 - Charlotte, NC - Join us for the second Shifting Gears event as we welcome internationally renowned guest speaker Ole Kassow, founder of Cycling Without Age. Ole will be in town to share how this initiative can help advance a more bike and age-friendly community in Charlotte. With the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, we'll hear from Ole and how this international project, which began in Copenhagen in 2012, uses volunteerism and slow cycling principles to bridge gaps between generations and enhance bike-friendly experiences in the community.

Wednesday October 25, 2017 - Charlotte, NC - Join us for a monthly party on 2 wheels Wednesday 10/25 which in honor of Halloween this months ride will be a costume ride. Our first stop will be in Loso with our second stop at Bulldog Dilworth. One thing is for sure the riders will pic a best costume and that lucky rider will win a prize. Wednesday October 25, 2017 - Charlotte, NC - Let's commute using the DEMO PROTECTED BIKE LANE! Join us for a group Bike Commute from Park Rd. Shopping Center. We will leave from out front of the Carribou Coffee shop at 8am. Come earlier if you'd like to grab a snack first. We'll head up the Little Sugar Creek Greenway and make our way to the protected bike lane that runs along 6th street. We'll regroup at 6th and Tryon for our journey home after work.
