Novice Level Rides


Social Novice Intermediate Advanced

All rides posted require the rider to wear a helmet. Riders should have a ride appropriate bicycle in good working order, food and water. It is also suggested to carry a spare tube, basic tool kit, emergency contact information and ID. All ride starts are subject to weather. Posted start times may change as the season progresses. Contact the listed ride leader with any ride specific questions.

6:15pm  Cool Breeze Mtb Ride at North Meck Park

Group Mountain Bike Ride at North Meck Park, Huntersville - Join a group for our weekly mountain bike ride at North Meck Park. The ride starts at 6:15pm but jump in when you can. We will run as many laps as the day allows - and pull out the lights if necessary. We will try to have our Mtn. Bike Demo fleet available on the first Monday of every month.

Tuesday evening ride will be split into an A, B  and C rides.  The A Ride will be race pace 18+ Show & Go ride for 26 +/- miles.  The B Ride will be a NO DROP Ride that will follow the A ride route , but at a slower pace.  The C ride will be a true beginner ride at 14 miles.

6:00pm  First Flight Bicycles Tuesday Mtb Ride

Leave from the shop at 6:00 sharp, ride to the Signal Hill Trail (about 2.5 miles on the road), ride a 4 mile lap or two and return to the shop via the Statesville Greenway or Broad Street.  Round trip is approximately 12.5 miles. With  winter weather, we  try to ride most weeks but it's a good idea to phone ahead especially if the weather has been questionable.

7:45pm  CABA Tuesday Night Ride

The first Tuesday of every month is "Ladies Night". Men are welcome but only if accompanied by a lady. The rest of the month is open for all. Join this relaxed, fun ride down low traffic, mostly deserted streets with plenty of street lights. We'll plan the ride around 7:45 and roll out at 8. Nothing too serious, just a lot of fun and good exercise. Discover new roads and ride through some of the nicest neighborhoods in Charlotte.

6:30pm  Cool Breeze Cyclery Wednesday Night Beginner / "C" Ride

Beginner/ 'C' ride on Wednesday nights at the Huntersville Business Park. This ride will be for first time road riders and cyclists just getting started. The focus will be teaching new riders how to ride in a group, how and when to shift (if necessary), and generally getting new riders comfortable riding on the road and ready to ride in larger groups on longer rides. The speed will be adjusted based on the group. Enter the park near the hospital, turn left when you enter the business park circle and we will be in the first parking lot on the left.

11:00am  Y Xtreme Team Thursday Beginner Ride

This is a ride for anyone that is new to cycling or just getting back into it. We'll spend time on the basics of riding, equipment and training. A fun, social ride from Colonel Francis Beatty park. The ride starts from Lake Point Hall which is at the very back of the park. No ride if its raining or below 40 deg. at the start of the ride. This ride leaves out after the 9am ride returns to the park.

8:00am  C4 LSD Ride Series (Long Slow Distance)

The LSD Ride Series is designed to be laid back and leisurely, with speeds as slow as 10 mph average.  These rides are designed for those who like to go long distances, but aren't necessarily in any hurry to get there.  Ride distances will increase throughout the season and will included destinations. Ride leader Steve Mosier is an experience touring cyclist. Current dates and start times will be updated on the club's website. 8:00am  C4 SAMBO - C Ride

The SAMBO (Saturday AM Bike Outing) features A, B, and C rides intended to accommodate all levels of riders. All groups will leave from The Right Gear in Kannapolis every Saturday. The "C" ride will run on most of the same roads as the A & B, but will cut off several of the more challenging sections. For those who want to take it easy and be social, or want to get some riding tips from a more experienced rider, this one's for you. This ride will be a no-drop, 13-15 mph pace ride and is flexible depending on who shows up.

8:00am  Spirited Cyclist - Huntersville Saturday Ride

The 27 mile ride is a no drop ride and we will have Spirited Cyclist Team members riding along to make sure you always know where you are. This is a great ride if you are just getting into the sport, or just looking to get a nice recovery ride in. This ride is a relaxed pace that usually averages 14 to 15 mph.

9:00am  Performance Bicycle Saturday Ride

A No Drop ride traversing bicycle friendly city streets and neighborhoods that teaches the fundamentals of group riding.  Ettiquette, hand signals and basic paceline techniques will be discussed and in practice. The route varies by week, but will range from 18-25 miles of mostly flat and rolling terrain.  All skill levels are welcome and encouraged; a helmet and road bike are required.  Ride is NO GO in the event of rain.

8:30am  Trek Store Sunday "C" Ride

The average speed is 15-16mph over 23.5 miles.  The group will follow the B-Ride but WILL NOT complete the hill loop.  This is a mild to moderate training ride for folks wanting a casual outing on their bikes. We do ask that folks be able to maintain a 15 mph average over rolling terrain. These rides are intended for those on road bikes, but those on fitness bikes able to maintain the average speed are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

2:30pm  Olde Mecklenburg Brewery "Bike Up"

Bike Up at OMB is a 1.5 hr ride then beer afterwards! Arrive no later than 2pm to roll out promptly at 2:30pm. Participants must sign a waiver prior to the ride. The longer route is a "Show&Go" with a 17-18 mph avg. The shorter route is a "No Drop" at a more comfortable Sunday afternoon pace of 12-14 mph avg. If it is raining, the ride will be cancelled.  Check OMB event website or facebook page for cancellations.
